DISF is an independent cultural entity. It is inspired by the ideals of the history of freethought and the secular values that work to promote civil liberties for all humans. The DISF strives through its network members, supporters, and volunteers, nationally and internationally, to defend the individual’s right to freedom of consciousness, critical thinking, peaceful praxis methods and creative mediums of expression. Through its publications, conferences, educational seminars, and open dialogue with like-minded communities, the DISF offers insight and information on Canadian and global Brave-Minded individuals and groups, associations and organizations.

DISF and its branches, IAIIS, JBM, were founded between late 1999 and May 2004 by Dr. Marvin F. Zayed of Canada
International Archive of Islamic Inquisition Studies (IAIIS): Founded in 2001
Journal of Brave Minds (JBM): Founded in May, 2004, to replace his previous journal Mafkar for Free Thought, established in 2000, and to be the Chronicle of the ICPF
Affiliations: ICPF, and AF
International Committee to Protect Freethinkers (ICPF): Founded by Jaya Gopal of India, restructured and presided over since May 2004 by Dr. Marvin F. Zayed with the collective help of the members of the International Committee to Protect Freethinkers.
Academy of Freethought (AF): Honorary entity collectively founded in September, 2005, by members of the ICPF’s Internal Executive Committee. AF is situated in Ottawa, Ontario at the DISF house. |
